Insightful video shines a light on opioid use disorder (OUD) among CA’s construction industry

The electrical and construction industries by nature are professions that carry a high risk of injury to workers from all trades. Due to the increased incidents of injuries and resulting treatment with pain medication, construction workers are six times more likely to develop an opioid addiction than workers in other industries.

In response to the alarming opioid epidemic in California, the state’s construction industry along with California’s biopharma industry are working to find solutions to address and treat this serious epidemic among workers in the building trades.

In addition to co-hosting four informational OUD briefings among policymakers and union representatives over the past 18 months, the California Biotechnology Foundation also helped develop an educational video which includes experts who spoke at the briefings about the incidence of opioid use in the construction industry, best practices used in treating OUD, and innovative programs that are having positive results in OUD prevention and for patients trying to overcome their addiction.

We encourage you to view this compelling and insightful video and share with your networks. You can find more information on previous OUD Briefings here.
